Grace's diagnosis of Covenant Life on arrival was precise: high internal engagement, low external impact. The Consumer Model's four failure fronts were all present. ATTENDANCE WITHOUT DEPLOYMENT: members gather, give and consume services without being equipped or sent. SUNDAY-MONDAY DISCONNECT: formation addresses spiritual life but never professional life. RESOURCE INVERSION: 81% of the budget allocated to internal maintenance 19% to external mission. And CIVIC INVISIBILITY: the church had no documented presence in the governance economic or cultural life of its neighbourhood. All four fronts were structural not moral. The people were sincere. The architecture was wrong.

Today honestly assess which of the four failure fronts most describes your church. Then identify one specific structural change — not a programme addition — that would begin to address it.
The four failure fronts are not the result of bad intentions. They are the predictable output of a model that defines success by internal satisfaction rather than external impact. A church that measures its success by attendance giving and programme quality has built structures that will produce exactly those outputs — and nothing more. The Deployment and Vocational Impact Score (DVIS™) measures the outputs the Consumer Model is structurally incapable of producing.
- Congregations growing internally while the neighbourhood they inhabit remains unaffected
- Pastors measuring success by metrics that the Consumer Model rewards and that the DVIS™ reveals as insufficient
- The church investing its best resources in maintaining the experience of those who already belong
Haggai 1:4: Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your panelled houses while this house remains a ruin? God's question to the people who had prioritised their own comfort over His purposes is precisely the question the DVIS™ asks the church that has prioritised internal maintenance over external mission.
The world expects religious institutions to provide spiritual services to their members — and most churches have organised themselves to meet that expectation.
God expects His church to be an embassy in every neighbourhood it inhabits — which requires a fundamentally different organisational architecture from the one that satisfies members.
Matthew 25:25: I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. The church that has buried its talent in internal maintenance has not been unfaithful in an obvious way. It has been cautiously safe. And the verdict is the same.
"Lord expose the failure fronts in our church and give our leadership the courage to address them structurally not cosmetically. We want to be an embassy not a monument. In Jesus' name Amen."
