Sofia Reyes-Okonkwo was born between worlds. Colombian mother. Nigerian-British father. Three languages. Four cities. The particular internal negotiation that people who belong fully to no single culture learn to perform before they learn to name it. For a long time she experienced this as displacement. Eventually she understood it as equipment. The bridge does not run primarily through institutions. It runs through specific people who have lived between worlds and chosen to make the space between them a bridge rather than a wound. Sofia did not choose the position. She chose what to do with it.
"Key verse: Revelation 7:9 (KJV)"
This week take one concrete step toward a cross-cultural relationship you have been putting off. The bridge is built by specific people not by institutions.
The GRJI at its first measurement in Sofia's primary context was 23 — reflecting severe intercultural fragmentation. Five systemic causes converged: ideological tribalism amplified by digital algorithms systemic racism embedded in institutional structures media fragmentation that sorted populations into mutually incomprehensible information environments resource scarcity that converted diversity into competition and the church's failure to model the unity it proclaimed. The fracture is not incidental. It is structural. And it requires structural repair.
- Communities increasingly sorted by algorithm into groups who cannot hear each other
- Churches that reflect the world's divisions rather than modelling their reconciliation
- The vision of all nations under one head remaining unrealised in the communities that should most embody it
Galatians 3:28: There is neither Jew nor Gentile neither slave nor free nor is there male and female for you are all one in Christ Jesus. This is not a description of what heaven will be. It is a commission for what the church must embody now — in its fellowship in its governance in its resource allocation and in its cultural expression.
The world manages cultural difference through tolerance legal frameworks and the management of competing interests.
God calls His people to model the reconciled diversity that the end of the age will display — now in specific communities through specific relationships as a witness to the world of what the comprehensive gospel produces.
Acts 10:34-35: I now realise how true it is that God does not show favouritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. Peter's realisation required a vision a direct instruction and a personal encounter. The barrier to intercultural reconciliation is rarely information. It is the personal encounter that changes what information is received into.
"Lord make me a bridge rather than a barrier. Let the reconciled diversity that heaven will display become visible in my community through my specific relationships and choices. In Jesus' name Amen."
