Priya chose teaching at twenty-four after three years in consultancy. She describes the decision not as a sacrifice but as a correction — the recognition that the formation of people is a more consequential act than the optimisation of systems, and that a classroom is a more powerful platform than a boardroom for the purposes she was actually called to. The teacher's vocation is the most under-celebrated and over-consequential vocation in the Kingdom's formation architecture. Every other pillar's practitioners were formed somewhere. Most of them were formed by a teacher.
"Key verse: James 3:1 (KJV)"
Today, contact one teacher who formed you. Tell them one specific thing you are doing in your life because of what they invested in you.
The educational system that pays teachers below market rate for roles of societal consequence is making a theological statement about what it values. The Kingdom that produces practitioners for every other pillar needs teachers to form those practitioners — and the formation of teachers, and the value assigned to the teaching vocation, are MEELS preconditions that most educational reform never addresses.
- Teachers who are vocationally called but institutionally under-resourced and culturally undervalued
- Practitioners in other pillars who have not acknowledged the teachers who formed them
- The educational system's most important vocation treated as the fallback option for those who could not enter more prestigious professions
Proverbs 22:6: Train up a child in the way they should go; when they are old they will not depart from it. The formation that happens in childhood is the formation that holds at seventy. The teacher who invests in that formation is investing in outcomes they will not live to see — which is the definition of a Kingdom vocation.
The world evaluates vocations by their income, prestige, and market demand — in all of which teaching scores poorly.
God evaluates vocations by their Kingdom consequence — and by that standard, the teacher who forms the next generation of Kingdom practitioners is exercising one of the most consequential callings available.
Matthew 28:19-20: Go and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. The Great Commission is an educational commission. Jesus describes His primary method of Kingdom expansion as teaching — and calls His disciples to do the same.
"Lord, honour the teachers in our community who are investing in the formation of people they will not see complete. Let their vocation be valued — by us, by our institutions, and by the students they form. In Jesus' name, Amen."
