The GII's Economic Empowerment metric is not about household income. It is about the household's trajectory — whether financial anxiety is decreasing, whether savings are building, whether generosity is increasing, and whether the financial values being transmitted will serve the next generation. Nadia observed that financial patterns are among the most reliably transmitted of all household behaviours — for better or worse. The household that discusses money honestly, manages it intentionally, and gives generously is transmitting a different economic formation than the household that treats money as a taboo subject.
"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies."
This week, have one honest conversation about money with your family. Not about what things cost. About what money is for.
Schools do not adequately teach financial wisdom. Banks do not teach generosity. The media teaches consumption. The household is the only institution with both the access and the relational depth to transmit a comprehensive financial formation — and most households have abdicated this responsibility through discomfort, absence, or ignorance.
- Children absorbing financial anxiety patterns rather than financial wisdom
- Adults managing money with the instincts they received from households that never examined them
- The next generation reaching adulthood without the financial formation that a covenant home should have provided
Deuteronomy 8:17-18: Do not say to yourself, 'My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.' Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth. The household that transmits this conviction produces a different relationship to money than the one that transmits the alternative.
The world treats financial education as a professional responsibility — something the school or the bank should provide.
God expects the household to transmit the foundational financial conviction: that wealth is a trust, not a trophy, and that its purpose is generosity, not accumulation.
Luke 16:10-11: Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much. The financial formation of faithfulness begins with very little — which is exactly where children are when the household has the opportunity to form them.
"Lord, let our household transmit a healthy relationship to money — not anxiety, not greed, not silence. Let us model the financial faithfulness that turns wealth into a trust rather than a trophy. In Jesus' name, Amen."

You may have inherited a relationship with money you never chose — anxiety, or greed, or a silence that shaped you without a word. But God offers a different inheritance: the security of being His, where wealth is a trust and never a trophy, and where you owe nothing you cannot pay because He has already paid it. Come to Him today, and receive the one inheritance that anxiety can never touch.
